  Risk Management

Meeting of December 6, 2004

District Safety Committee December 6, 2004

Present: Patti Conens, Marsha Kelly, Ron Levin, Frank Nunez, Lisa Sanford

Absent: Sharon Berg, Naomi Kitajima, Eric Rosenthal, Jim Williams, John Vandercook

Convened: 1:00 PM

Marsha explained it is her goal to have one person from each bargaining unit represented on the Safety Committee. Ron Levin will represent the Administrators and she is waiting for an answer from FA. The committee will meet quarterly allowing for unresolved issues to be brought forward.

The Safety Report form will be posted on Risk Management’s website facilitating the reporting process. Plant Services has their work orders online at fhdawo.com, where staff can place safety work orders. Rick Management will be notified when facilities receives a work order pertaining to a safety issue. Situations requiring immediate action should be called into Plant Services in addition to completing the on-line request. In emergency situations, or after hours, Police Services should be contacted so that appropriate action can be taken.

It was decided that procedures, perhaps in a flow chart format, will be established on whom to contact based on each situation. Ron reported that Police Services needs to be contacted when the paramedics are called, ‘lights and sirens,’ or if the situation is a traffic or safety concern. The process will be discussed at the next meeting.

Emergency evacuation plans and procedures were discussed. Frank explained that each building has the evacuation plan displayed and if any building doesn’t have its plan displayed to notify him.

Police Services is being trained to handle minor hazardous materials situations. Training will include how to be a first responder and how to handle minor incidents. It is hoped that advance training will be possible, because in the event of a major incident, such as an earthquake, the county’s Haz Mat team most likely wouldn’t be available to us.

It was noted that each committee member should have an alternate, to ensure each group is represented at each meeting.

Adjourned: 2:00 PM
