Emergency Plans:

Naomi Kitajima and Melanie Harris discussed a meeting they attended.  The Santa Clara County Public Health Department presided over a meeting covering many aspects of the county’s medical response to a “mass incident”, specifically bioterrorism.  The impetus for the efforts in this direction was money provided for this purpose to each state by the Department of Homeland Security.  Santa Clara County was one of only 5 jurisdictions in California to receive a grant of $500,000.

This meeting at the County level, involved large organizations with nurses and focused on bioterrorism.  Other programs are being planned to include other groups in the County having responsibility in the event of a major bioterrorism emergency.

The Foothill-De Anza Community College District Safety Committee had an extensive discussion regarding the ways in which the District might be involved with this Countywide Medical Response System (CMRS).  Also considered was the relationship of the District and the Red Cross as well as the education of the faculty and staff in the event of a mass incident.
